The courses above that are bold and italicized are required. For the Bachelor of Arts in Theology (BA) degree you must complete ALL of the courses above under "Old Testament Courses" and "New Testament Courses" for a total of 113 credits, which usually takes students approximately 3-5 years to complete. Our Master of Arts in Theology (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy in Theology (Ph.D.) graduate programs are based on the European university model of "research degrees" which are entirely research-based, rather than course-based. The MA and the Ph.D. degrees are awarded on the basis of substantial original research: the MA has a prerequisite of a BA degree, and requires the student to write a 100-page thesis (24 credits) on a topic in theology agreed to by the student's Thesis Chair (this usually takes students approximately 2-4 years to complete); the Ph.D. has a prerequisite of an MA degree, and requires the student to write a 250-page dissertation (36 credits) on a topic in theology agreed to by the student's Dissertation Chair (this usually takes students approximately 3-6 years to complete).
GRADING SYSTEM: Grades are issued according to the following scales:
Grade Equivalent Percentile Grade Performance
Pt. Avg. Letter Grade Level
4.0 A 94 - 100% Exceptional
3.0 B 85 - 93% Above Average
2.0 C 73 - 84% Average
1.0 D 65 - 72% Below Average
0.0 F below 65% Unacceptable
Some courses of a less academic nature may employ a "pass/fail" grading system. In such cases, assuming the student satisfactorily completes all requirements listed by the instructor in the courses syllabus, he shall receive a letter "P" for pass, and 2 grade points shall be awarded to his accumulative point average. Accordingly, if such requirements are not met, the student receives an "F" for fail and no grade points shall be awarded.
Students who wish to take liberal arts courses in order to transfer course credits to accredited institutions may enroll in the "CLEP" courses offered by our affiliated institution, InstantCert Academy. To enroll in these accredited liberal arts courses, click here.
